Pay Structure

So this is one that I have obviously been thinking about a lot. Some of the things that come to mind are things that need to be done that will obviously make us feel like assholes. Let me explain. I was at class on saturday, and new people come in, but they aren't always prospectives. They are family from out of town, that would (by the website) be charged $20. But, of course it is like a cousin in for a day or whatever. So, some gyms give guest passes. What I was thinking was there are probably members out there that tell there co workers what crossfit is about (or at least try to), but would never think of bringing them because it's $20. Then you have the jackasses that will bring there whole family over and over because no one says shit. So give x number of passes. Let them bring family from out of town or a coworker. No harm, no foul, but if the coworker signs up, $50 credit to the person that brought them in (if it is a client).

Two thoughts for Monday

So a couple of ideas:

- There are some places that are available, but there is a lot of work to do before we get there. Marnel and I were talking about what a good 1st tangible step might be. Maybe the research with local planning commissions (i.e. zoning, fees, taxes etc). We should have ducks in a row when we are ready to lease.

- What about the name "Crossfit Total". I admit, it isn't the toughest name, but I think it embodies the philosophy that we are all talking about. Just a thought.

Competition

Here are some thoughts from the CF message board about location and competition.

The message board is a fairly good resource.

Here is a blog from Nikki, (the co-owner of CF NorCal, with Robb Wolf).  When you look, the business side of it seems to be fairly open source.

Location, location lo...oh fuck it.

So there really aren't a lot of locations available. (There are a lot of properties, however, the industrial zones are either fairly far away or right next door.) We need to make a decision about what we are going do. Do we say fuck it and just work on putting the others out of business or do we try for the first year to not worry about the competition thing. The going rate seems to be just around $1.sf NNN. There are some good spots off of Cambell Ave by the end of the par course. 2-3000 sf, access to the trail, parking in most. I also saw a complex by the westgate mall and some slightly more expensive stuff off of university ave. Post what you found.

And remember, that just because it is available, does not mean that it is available to us.

Next Meeting

Hey all,

Next meeting will be at my house. 3pm on Sunday the 7th of June. 193 Garden Hill Dr. Los Gatos, CA 95032. 408-656-7007. We all had some homework.

- Check out facilities
- Find out about insurance costs
- Talk to our contacts about start up stuff

We were also going to come up with how each of us would like the place to look (schedule, facilities, cash inflow) in the fist 3, 6, 12 months.

I also challenge you to really think about what the weekly schedule would look like. (What classes would be offered, when etc.) This can often be an easier way of getting a vision of the place going.

As for food. I am going to make a chicken and I will take care of the rest of the food. Bring drinks.

Sunday's Meeting

The meeting on Sunday was good, but it lets up know that we have a lot more to do. Will post later.
