Pay Structure
So this is one that I have obviously been thinking about a lot. Some of the things that come to mind are things that need to be done that will obviously make us feel like assholes. Let me explain. I was at class on saturday, and new people come in, but they aren't always prospectives. They are family from out of town, that would (by the website) be charged $20. But, of course it is like a cousin in for a day or whatever. So, some gyms give guest passes. What I was thinking was there are probably members out there that tell there co workers what crossfit is about (or at least try to), but would never think of bringing them because it's $20. Then you have the jackasses that will bring there whole family over and over because no one says shit. So give x number of passes. Let them bring family from out of town or a coworker. No harm, no foul, but if the coworker signs up, $50 credit to the person that brought them in (if it is a client).

I think that this will be a good problem to have that we can discuss as we grow. Staying flexible to our customers at least initially, IMHO is the best policy.
ReplyDeleteI think that we need to be careful about being flexible or worrying about stuff when it comes along. (I am going to preface this with an appreciation that I can be direct with you with no hard feelings.)
ReplyDeleteI think that now that we have a passion and an idea of what we want from the box, we need to put the business side on the front burner. IO want the gym to be cool, accessible and ..., but without $$$ it will only last so long. For those of you in sales: sales without profit is charity, and with us as philanthropes, it will only last so long.
If the business side is not something we want to worry about but want more to deal with the offerings of the gym, then our approach needs to change (i.e. a co-opt). Some of the problems of CFSJ is that many of the business needs were left to hind sight. Think of the box they could have if they charged $150 pp no matter what, however, what would happen if they sprung it on now?
Some of these things (either proposed or agreed upon) will allow us to be a better box now and in the future. I am not looking at this thing making me money, but I am looking at it being totally self-sustaining. Otherwise, what is the point?
